Concrete Stair Treads & Risers: The Ideal Choice for The Outdoors

Concrete steps offer a durable, stylish, and low-maintenance solution for outdoor stairways in both residential and commercial projects. From elegant garden paths to large-scale public spaces, concrete steps provide the perfect balance of functionality, safety, and visual appeal.

Outdoor environments demand materials that can handle harsh conditions without compromising on performance or appearance. Concrete stair treads and risers are naturally strong and weather-resistant, making them ideal for areas exposed to rain, UV, frost, and foot traffic. Unlike timber or natural stone, quality precast concrete resists warping, cracking, and erosion over time.

Once installed, concrete stair treads and risers require minimal upkeep, reducing maintenance costs over time. Simple occasional cleaning is all it takes to keep concrete steps looking their best, which is an advantage across all project types including busy households, commercial premises or public spaces.

Like our paving and pool coping, Anston's concrete stair treads and risers are available to order in 28 beautiful colours, offering a variety of aesthetic styles such as traditional concrete, sparkling granite or bold exposed aggregate.

Anston's standard, most popular finish for all concrete products is a shot-blasted finish, which highlights the beautiful, sensuous texture of concrete.

Customers can select from a light, medium or heavy level of shot-blasting. Light blasting results in a smoother texture and heavy blasting results in a rougher, grittier textured finish.

For products made using our EcoPebble, Ironstone or Mineral Range colours, a heavier level of blasting will reveal more of the stone aggregate in the mix.

Certain stair treads and risers in the square edge profile can be further enhanced with a honed finish, where the surface of a shot-blasted product is ground by hand to remove the roughness of the shot-blasted texture. This achieves a silky smooth finish that is pleasing to the touch. However, a honed finish will have a lower slip resistance than the standard shot-blasted finish.

Honing of products will incur additional charges due to the extra labour involved during production.

Anston's standard range of concrete stair treads and risers are available with a square edge or dropdown edge, and do not include any fixing components for installation with stair stringers.

If you plan to use Anston stair treads in a stair stringer application, we recommend that you obtain the appropriate engineering certifications to ensure that selected products will comply with the designated application.

Anston concrete stair treads and risers are typically installed in an outdoor environment due to their excellent durability and resistance to harsh weather conditions.

Though our standard shot-blasted finish is best suited to an outdoor application, our stair treads and risers may also be used indoors. Certain stair treads in the square edge profile can be honed or polished to achieve a surface finish that is smooth to the touch, thus suited for indoor use.

Please note that honing and polishing of any products requires additional charges due to the extra labour involved in production.

All Anston products are made to order, requiring a minimum lead time for production. If you do not have a trading account with Anston, we will not be able to commence production of your order until we receive a deposit payment.

Once the order is confirmed and deposit payment received, the minimum lead time for concrete stair treads and risers is 4 weeks. However, this may be impacted by other factors such as order volume, existing work log and delivery location.

To ensure accurate lead times, please confirm with your Anston representative at the time of enquiry.

Surrounded by panoramic views of the hills, the Village Green & Pavilion offers a spacious, beautifully decorated canvas for glamping, group accommodation, nature walks and destination weddings.
