How thick are the large format steppers and slabs?
Steppers, slabs and stair landings in our large format architectural concrete range vary from 70mm to 200mm thick.
If used as part of a stairway, installers must ensure that the products are installed with adequate vertical spacing to comply with building regulations. In a serendipitous way, this spacing also creates a shadow line between adjacent slabs which is a very desirable visual feature.
What colours are available for large format steppers and slabs?
Anston's large format architectural concrete range is available to order in 28 beautiful colours, offering a variety of aesthetic styles such as traditional concrete, sparkling granite or bold exposed aggregate.

What types of finishes are available in the large format range?
Anston's standard, most popular finish for all concrete products is a shot-blasted finish, which highlights the beautiful, sensuous texture of concrete.
Customers can select from a light, medium or heavy level of shot-blasting. Light blasting results in a smoother texture and heavy blasting results in a rougher, grittier textured finish.
For products made using our EcoPebble, Ironstone or Mineral Range colours, a heavier level of blasting will reveal more of the stone aggregate in the mix.
Large format products can also be produced in a smooth, off-mould/off-form finish. This finish is achieved when products are stripped out of the moulds with no further treatments applied to the surface. This creates a very industrial visual style.
Steppers slabs and stair landings can be further enhanced with a honed finish, where the surface of a shot-blasted product is ground by hand to remove the roughness of the shot-blasted texture. This achieves a silky smooth finish that is pleasing to the touch. However, a honed finish will have a lower slip resistance than the standard shot-blasted finish.
Hand honing of large format products will incur additional charges due to the extra labour involved during production.
How long will it take to receive my order?
All Anston products are made to order, requiring a minimum lead time for production. If you do not have a trading account with Anston, we will not be able to commence production of your order until we receive a deposit payment.
Once your order is confirmed and we have received your deposit payment, the standard lead time for large format products is 4 weeks. However, this may be impacted by other factors such as order volume, existing work log and delivery location.
To ensure accurate lead times, please confirm with your Anston representative at the time of enquiry.
How do I install large format steppers, slabs and landings?
Concrete products are already on the heavier side when comparing building materials. For our large format beauties that are sheer in size and scale, the unit weight of each item is in triple digit kilograms!
These products are not suitable for transport by hand, and should always be transported using the appropriate lifting equipment that is adequately load-rated to bear the weight.
Typically, installation of our large format products is completed via careful crane lifting and positioning of each unit into place, where the supporting structure beneath the slab should be pre-coated with a layer of tiling adhesive or bonding material.
Large-format concrete steppers create an impressive entryway of floating steps, leading visitors up into a modern private residence.
Constructed from nine separate precast units, the steppers were installed with a slight overhang, creating a shadow line between each level to evoke a feeling of lightness despite the sheer size and weight of each impressive piece.
