St Joseph’s College

By Anston Architectural Products

Both playful and educational, this special landscape project brings science to life and encourages learning through play.

At St Joseph’s College in Ferntree Gully, the school courtyards and pavements feature custom-made concrete pavers by Anston. Crafted in three complementary colours of Vega, Orion, and Atlas, the pavers are engraved and inlaid with steel lettering and numerals.

One section of paving creates a physical representation of the Periodic Table of Elements, set permanently within the schoolyard. Each paver is denoted with a unique chemical element symbol arranged precisely to mirror the structure of the periodic table, transforming a functional walkway into a large-scale interactive learning tool. Elsewhere, numerals are used to mark out 1-metre lengths. The subtly sparkling tones of the Granite pavers mirrors the shiny steel inlays, keeping the pavement refined and integrated with the surrounding architecture while still offering visual interest.

Durable, low-maintenance and educational, this project is a prime example of how standard concrete paving can be customised to create inspiring, purposeful outcomes, becoming more than a paved floor. Anston is proud to support learning environments like this one, where thoughtful landscape design enhances curiosity and connection in the everyday school experience.
