Gateway Plaza Leopold

By FORMium, Landscape Architectural Practice

The Bellarine Peninsula, which bridges Melbourne and Geelong, is home to Gateway Plaza Leopold, a shopping haven for locals and visitors.

The centre underwent a major refurbishment in March 2017, expanding its dining precinct, adding many new shops and introducing a landscaped town square for increased community useability and interaction.

Along the outer pedestrian walkways surrounding the centre, vibrant greenery is housed in several long planters, which are cleverly positioned to act as vehicular barriers. Due to the size and sheer weight of the planters, they successfully function as a physical barricade to deter drivers from encroaching into the pedestrian spaces.

The grey hues and exposed bluestone aggregate of the Anston River planters present a stunning contrast to the warm green foliage, while blending in seamlessly with the paving and overall colour scheme of the built environment.
