A modern rejuvenation of the landscape at this Hawthorn East home has transformed the nearly 50-year-old property from heritage to haute.
Meticulously designed by the team at NBLA, the outdoor areas surrounding the home have been maximised for function and utility while embodying luxury, sophistication and relaxation. The landscaping palette of refined architectural materials and thoughtful plantings showcases a perfect blend of natural beauty and modern design.
Construction of the landscape was expertly executed by Vic Landscape Group, bringing the architectural vision to life.
Anston’s Contribution
Anston played a pivotal role in enhancing the aesthetic appeal and functionality of this outdoor space by supplying luxury concrete hardscaping elements that tie adjoining spaces together. These elements include:
- Concrete steppers for the front garden
- Concrete pavers for the courtyard and outdoor room
- Concrete cladding and capping around the pool
Each of these elements were crafted in a custom colour, starting with the Bone mix from Anston’s Ironstone Range as the base, which was further enriched with bluemetal fragments to produce a striking exposed aggregate finish. The recurrence of this light, bright colour from the front garden to the rear entertaining spaces establishes a stylistic theme, taking users on a harmonious journey as they move through the residence.
Front Garden
NBLA’s design emphasizes clean lines, natural textures, and a cool-toned colour palette that complements the neutral tonality of the home, allowing the vivid greens of the plantscape to capture the viewer’s attention.
Upon entry into the front garden, visitors are greeted by a series of concrete steppers framed by lush greenery. The carefully curated plant selection, featuring a variety of textures and hues, adds depth and movement to the space.
Pool and Outdoor Room
The pool takes the main stage as the centrepiece of the outdoor environment, elevated to allow a waterfall edge and to indicate the pool’s hierarchy within the space. Anston’s precast concrete cladding and capping add an elegant touch around the pool, housing a raised garden bed which adds visual points of interest.
With an unbridled view of the pool thanks to floor to ceiling sliding glass panels, the outdoor room serves as a versatile space for dining and lounging. Anston pavers extend into this area, creating a seamless transition between different zones of the outdoor space. Stone feature walls are used as another design element, adding raw texture and contrast to the sleek, modern design.
