Nestled among native trees and grasses that resemble rubber trees and rice paddies, the Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Wall in Seymour, Victoria pays tribute to every serviceman and servicewoman who played a part in the Vietnam War.
Designed in a collaborative effort by AQL Landscape Design and Sinatra Murphy, the project brief intended to create a memorial that would interest visitors and attract a wide audience, even those with no connection to the wall. A select group of Vietnam Veterans from the Mitchell sub branch was engaged for consultation and feedback, ensuring the design and wall graphics would adequately depict the story of the Vietnam Vets.
The meandering path winds around glass panels bearing the names of those who served in the war. These panels are placed firmly into custom-made concrete plinths, which feature small holes where visitors can place red poppies.
