Earthy colours, considered spaces and immersive plantings create an idyllic private retreat at this Lennox Head residence.
The team at Waddell Landscape Design completed an extensive backyard transformation for the homeowners, creating a series of integrated areas that each serve a specific purpose while making the overall environment feel more spacious and useable.
The existing layout had predominantly been taken up by a central fibreglass pool, which left pockets of unused space around its perimeter. This prime real estate was reconfigured into an open central lawn, enabling visual and physical connections throughout the entire space and creating a blank canvas that would support a wealth of outdoor activities.
A new pool and spa was constructed at the eastern section of the backyard, positioned for maximum spatial efficiency without having to downsize. The new poolscape is paved with warm travertine pavers which extend outward to include ample poolside space for lounging and sunbathing.
Wrapping around the pool’s northern boundary and continuing westward along the perimeter of the grassy lawn, a limestone feature wall provides a striking visual element that seamlessly links the separate garden spaces together.
Another prominent feature of the upgraded landscape is the elevated fire pit area, which provides open-air seating adjacent to the existing alfresco. Raised three steps above ground level, this area is the centrepiece of the garden, constructed with Remi feature pavers and carefully assembled limestone cladding to match the rock wall. Around the fire pit, a large L-shaped bench seat (also in the colour Remi) floats over a dense bed of philodendron xanadu, offering the perfect spot for socialising outdoors.
